South Gate (Maqwee) Campsite

Public campsite with ablutions · At South Gate, the entrance from Maun · Kwalate Safaris (DWNP concession)

A drawing stands in because nobody has sent us a photograph of South Gate (Maqwee) Campsite yet. We only publish images we have permission for. Send us five and this page changes the same week.

Budget Inside the park Park-run (DWNP)

The logistical campsite: two hours from Maun, right at the gate, so you clear formalities in the afternoon and are on the game-drive tracks at 06:00 the next morning. The woodland setting is less spectacular than Xakanaxa or Third Bridge, which is exactly why it is the easiest of the four to book.

Why you'd pick it

  • First night inside the reserve after the drive from Maun
  • Mopane woodland birding around camp
  • The practical base for a dawn start up the Mopane Tongue

What's here

  • Swimming pool
  • Campsite
  • Solar or 24h power

Arranged from the lodge:

  • Game drives
  • Boat trips

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Moremi Game Reserve charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside, and almost no booking site shows you that.

Park entryP270 for non-residents, roughly $20.
$20per person, per day
VehicleP75 a day for a foreign-registered vehicle, roughly $6.
$6per vehicle, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $138 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

Rates

±$40 per person. Around US$40 non-resident, P100 citizen; Kwalate publishes no rates, on enquiry. DWNP camping fee and park fees come on top.

What the rate covers is not confirmed. We have not been able to check whether meals, drinks and activities are included here, so treat this figure as the bed alone until it is.

Indicative 2026 rates per person per night sharing, gathered July 2026 from operators' own rate sheets where published. Several operators (Kwando Safaris, Desert & Delta, Kwalate Safaris) publish no public rates at all; where that is the case we say 'on enquiry' rather than print a guess. Always confirm with the lodge, and check whether park fees are included.
