October is Moremi with the thermostat broken: mean maximums of 36.5°C, individual days past 40°C, and game viewing that gets better with every degree because the shrinking water leaves the animals nowhere else to be.
If you only want the answer
October offers some of the year's best big-game viewing at the cost of punishing heat and a fading water program. Rates ease, gate hours lengthen from 1 October, and the trick is to structure every day around dawn, shade and a late drive.
The furnace month
The numbers are honest about what you are signing up for: 36.5°C average maximums, nights of 20.9°C that give little relief, and just 18 mm of rain over 4 days, usually as a first isolated storm late in the month. Everything with legs is tethered to the remaining channels and lagoons, and a parked vehicle at a shrinking water point is the productive strategy rather than the lazy one.
The land, at its barest, makes visibility spectacular. This is classic end-of-dry-season Africa, and Moremi plays it with the Delta's permanent water as the stage edge.
What the heat takes away
The water program contracts hard. Falling levels limit motorboat routes out of Xakanaxa and Third Bridge, and mokoro at Mboma is generally finished or reduced to short token loops. If boats are the point of your trip, October is the wrong month; if raw game density is the point, it might be the right one.
Driving-wise the deep sand is at its loosest and hungriest for fuel, so carry more diesel margin than the distances suggest. From 1 October the gates run 05:30 to 19:00, and that early half hour is worth more here than in any other month: use it every single day.
Costs down, effort up
Pricing starts its seasonal descent in October, and campsite availability loosens compared with the mid-winter scramble; four to six months of lead time is usually workable. Seasonal camps begin closing, with the Skybeds platforms shutting on 31 October.
The tip is hydration logistics: budget five litres of drinking water per person per day before cooking and washing, keep it out of the sun, and put a wet cloth over anything you want cool. October rewards the prepared and punishes improvisation.
